KB330: What's new in Moxie 7.03

SUMMARY

This article lists the new features and changes in Moxie version 7.03. It is intended for anyone planning to upgrade their installation of Moxie 7.02. All Moxie components, including Data Server, Player, Studio and services must be upgraded to 7.03 to ensure compatibility.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The upgrade to Moxie 7.03 requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable. This will be installed automatically as part of the upgrade process if it is not already installed on a Moxie system. Moxie Enterprise and Commercial editions are now available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Note: Video capture is not available under a 64-bit installation and is only supported for 32-bit installations.

There are two released versions of Moxie 7.03; 7.03.6690.1 and 7.03.6897.2. We recommend installing or upgrading to 7.03.6897.2, as this version includes additional fixes and is the currently supported version. 7.03.6690.1 has been deprecated and is no longer available for download.

NEW FEATURES

  • Moxie now available in a 64-bit version
  • Find feature is now available in all Open, Select and Assign dialog boxes in addition to Data Manager
  • Player Manager transmission logs now support the Relationships and Find features for ease of file location
  • PDFs now supported as content in playlists in Playlist Builder
  • Ability to generate thumbnail images for media content in Data Manager
  • New behavior for loss of connection to:

    • Data Server:

      • notification appears in Studio
      • all Data Manager, Permission Manager, Script Manager and Sync Manager functionality is disabled
      • files cannot be opened
      • files can only be saved to the local network
    • SQL Server database:

      • notification appears in Studio Data Server writes event log message
      • all Data Manager, Permission Manager, Script Manger and Sync Manager functionality is disabled
      • Sync Manager suspends task processing
      • files cannot be opened
      • files can only be saved to the local network
    • Data Server cache:

      • notification appears in Studio
      • Data Server writes event log message
      • all Data Manager functionality is disabled
      • Sync Manager suspends task processing
      • content cannot be imported from the file system or assigned to a Player

CHANGES

  • Player Script Manager and Script Engine Manager modules are now combined as Script Manager
  • Script task creation and saving behavior is now the same for players and Script Engines, and follows the player model
  • Data Manager files and folders can no longer be renamed by default. There is a property in the Studio Options to enable renaming. This setting is Studio-specific.
  • Option to turn Player screens on and off available in System Manager via the right-click menu
  • Additions to the Moxie scripting API. Now scripts can:

    1. get Moxie items, folders and sub-folders
    2. get media file system metadata
    3. get list of applications
    4. update application property values
    5. determine if a user metadata field exists, get metadata field names and values, update user metadata values and add or remove a user metadata field
    6. set event handlers for application list, user metadata, application property and cell value changes
    7. turn Player screen off and on

ENHANCEMENTS AND FIXES

  • Enhancements to the Relationships feature; the folder path is now editable
  • Enhanced connection information display including new status line indicators for Data Server:

    • license status
    • SQL database connection
    • cache folder access
  • Event actions that reference the workspace are now updated when a workspace is imported with a new name
  • Cylinder Gauge now supports the use of the color palette
  • Content Mask property databinding fixed
  • Sync Tasks no longer duplicate folders within a workspace and are now able to sync to folder with a name ending in a Moxie file type
  • Vertical scrollbar appears when the number of metadata items exceed the visible area of the window
  • Schedule Builder now interprets an end time of 12:00 am correctly for a non-recurring item
  • Issue with some data-bound content being orphaned and no longer updating over time has been fixed
  • MDSPC tool improved, with the addition of Moxie cache monitoring as well as the Data Server configuration settings not previously displayed

ADDITIONAL FIXES IN VERSION 7.03.6897.2

  • Studio no longer freezes after the Permissions loading stage when launching
  • Player transmissions no longer get stuck on x of y for Playlist gallery content
  • When using permissions, Studio version and logged-in status now update when a non-Data Admin logs in
  • Data-bound playlists within a layout now respond when locator is updated

LINKING PRODUCTS

  • New versions of all linking products have been added to the installer
  • These new versions support either an open DataPipe Server (3) or a secured DataPipe Server (7) connection
  • DataPipe Server 7 is available by request from Technical Services. This version of DataPipe requires valid certificates from all connecting client applications.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • When executing a long-running script on a Script Engine, a sudden or immediate shutdown of Script Engine may result in its script logs reporting the script task as still running
  • On a multi-screen desktop, where the monitors use different DPI settings; if the Studio window is opened on the higher DPI monitor then moved to the lower DPI monitor, some of the Studio window may be cut off.
  • Video Syncing between Players can drift when using Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. We recommend Windows 7 or removing the audio track from the video.
  • Running a manual setup on a computer where Moxie components have been upgraded using remote client upgrade will cause two Omnivex Moxie entries in Programs and Features.
