Summary
The following details the recommended steps for migrating your Moxie Data Server to a new server. If you want to upgrade Moxie on the same server, please see KB268: Recommended upgrade Path for Moxie.
Solution
- Back up Moxie, either by:
- creating a snapshot of the VM, if you are running Moxie on a VM or
- backing up Moxie as described here
- Ensure there will be no changes to the content while you are in the process of migrating to a new server. Advise all Moxie users that there is a freeze on any content changes during the migration process.
- Contact Omnivex Registration to advise them your intention to move your licensed copy of Moxie to a new server. This new server will require a new license file so you will have a temporary key for the new server until you have completed your migration and decommissioned the old server. Registration can be contacted by email at registration@omnivex.com.
- Install and license the same version of Moxie on the new server. Because you are copying over the Moxie cache and the Moxie database from the old server, the new server must match the same version as the old server.
- Stop Omnivex and Moxie services on both the old and new servers.
- Copy the Moxie cache from the old server to the new server. Use the MDSPC to confirm where the cache is located on the old server. If the cache is not in the default location, create the exact same folder on the new server.
- Copy the Moxie database from the old server to the new server. Use the MDSPC to confirm where the database is located on the old server.
- If full SQL Server, you can point the new server to the same database as long as the old server stays offline.
- If SQLLite, you can copy it over to the same location as the old server.
- If SQL CE, you can copy it over to the same location as the old server.
- Copy over the DataPipe.dat file from the old server to the new server. The default location for the file is C:\ProgramData\Omnivex\DataPipe Server.
- Copy over any relevant Linking product data. Default locations vary by product but will be located in the folder C:\ProgramData\Omnivex\ .
- Once everything has been copied over to the new server, start all Omnivex and Moxie services.
- Run through the Data Server Configuration wizard.
- Run through the Data Server Connection wizard.
- Open a Studio on the new server and confirm the content matches the old server.
- Upgrade Moxie if required. Refer to KB268 for steps on the suggestion upgrade path.
- Point all Players from the old server to the new server. Be sure to upgrade your Players (using the System Manager) if the Data Server was also upgraded.
- Contact Omnivex Registration to obtain a replacement license key for the new server once you have completed your migration.
