KB238: How to: Export your PowerPoint file for use as Moxie content

Summary

Using a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation as content in a Moxie layout.

Microsoft PowerPoint slides can be exported as a collection of image files for use in a Moxie image or media zone within a layout or a playlist. Displaying slide show content as a collection of images eliminates the need for an installation of Microsoft PowerPoint on your Moxie Studio or Player computers and takes advantage of Moxie's native image support.

Solution

It is possible to export your Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 or 2010 presentations as a collection of images for use as content in Moxie.

First, export a presentation from PowerPoint as a collection of individual images where each image contains the content of one of the slides in the presentation. Then import this image collection into Moxie Data Server for use as Moxie content.

From the Layout Designer module in Moxie Studio, transitions can be applied when images change. Images can be set to automatically change after a certain duration or image changes can be event-based; changing when a mouse is clicked for example, similar to established PowerPoint behavior.

To export a PowerPoint presentation:

  1. From within Microsoft PowerPoint, open the presentation intended for export.
  2. Select Save As. The Save As dialog box appears.
  3. Browse to the location where image collection is inteded to be saved.
  4. In File name, name the image collection folder.
  5. In Save as type, select one of the following file types, all of which are natively supported by Moxie:
    • BMP
    • GIF
    • JPG/JPEG
    • PNG
    • TIFF
  6. Click Save. A confirmation dialog box appears enquiring if the intention is to export every slide or just the currently selected one.
  7. Click Every Slide. The presentation is converted into an image collection.

The image collection can now be imported into a Moxie layout. See Configuring a collection of images to come from your Data Server in the User Guide for Layout Designer for importation and configuration details.
