KB384: Can I still use DataPipe 3 client now that DataPipe 7 has been released?

Yes, you can continue to use DataPipe 3 client even though DataPipe 7 was released in September 2025.

DataPipe 7 Server is a ‘secured’ version of DataPipe 3 Server.  They are different products and can run side-by-side on the same computer.

DataPipe 3 is not encrypted.  DataPipe 7 encrypts both communications and data at rest and therefore DataPipe 7 requires a certificate.  See KB372 for more information on DataPipe certificates.

DataPipe 7 Clients are backwards compatible and will connect to a DataPipe 3 Server in an open unencrypted mode. Therefore, customers can connect DataPipe 3 Clients or DataPipe 7 Clients to a Datapipe 3 Server.  If a customer doesn’t need encryption and wants to stay on DataPipe 3 Server, they can either connect their existing DataPipe 3 Clients or use DataPipe 7 Clients.

However, it is important to note that only DataPipe 7 Clients will connect to a DataPipe 7 Server.

So while KB367: What’s new in 7.10 says DataPipe 3 Client is deprecated, it just means we’re not going to update the version of DataPipe 3 Client any more since DataPipe 7 Client will connect to either server (3 or 7).

We will continue to support customers on DataPipe 3 Client.  Similarly, while CalendarLink is also deprecated – we’ll still support it at this time but no new versions will be released.
